I’m Lauren and welcome to The Harris Habitat. Why “habitat?” A few reasons. First and foremost, I’m a sucker for the alliteration. Second, fun fact, I have a master’s in environmental management so it seemed fitting. And third, the definition spoke to me because I want our home to feel organic, lived-in, and where my family just naturally belongs.
hab·i·tat/ˈhabəˌtat/ noun one's natural home or environment
I’m addicted to buying coffee table books that I don’t read. I love olive green and making lists. My go-to drink order is a vodka soda, two limes please. I believe in reading the book before seeing the movie. I will always say “yes” to a look at the dessert menu and will be ecstatic if it includes blueberry pie.
My husband, Charlie, and I have been blessed with two sons: Asher and Everett. In addition to a full-time job for a local small business as a Business Development Coordinator, I'm also a wedding planner with The Hitched Company. And, I decided that since I didn't have enough on my plate, I would go ahead and add this little venture to the mix.
I lived by the Marie Kondo philosophy of surrounding yourself only with what brings you joy before it was a thing (hair flip). I love meaningful things, and I don't just want things for the sake of having things. We've also known for years that we were eventually going to build a house, and I didn't want to invest in decorating a home that was short-term, so over the years I unexpectedly became quite minimalist. We're basically starting from scratch with this house. I'm not going to be buying furniture and decorations just to fill the space, I want to take my time and ensure I truly love every single thing in my home. This could take a while, and I'm prepared for the long journey ahead. Thanks for embarking on it with me.
