DIAPER BAG NECESSITIES

I'm going to go ahead and say it: I don't believe in diaper bags. I didn't include one on My Baby Registry Recommendations because I didn't register for one. I used a Louis Vuitton Neverfull GM with a ToteSavvy insert the majority of the time with Asher. When I went to the Bahamas, I used a cheap straw tote as a diaper bag to match all of my beach outfits.

Then I used a Target backpack. Then I used a Longchamp Large Le Pliage Tote. Then I got a great deal on a Tory Burch diaper bag at the outlets and used it for about 2 weeks, re-gifted it to a friend, and ultimately went back to my Le Pliage. Point being: I've barely ever used a true diaper bag and I like switching things up too much to use one.

At this stage in my life, I also want to invest in things that I can use long-term. A diaper bag stays with you for a few short years, and then you're done. Whereas my Neverfull? It was my "push present" with Asher and I'll have it forever. The Le Pliage? I got that as a souvenir in Paris and I love it as a regular purse, in addition to using it as a diaper bag.

I digress. This post was supposed to be about what I kept in my diaper bag, so here goes.

Newborn diaper bag necessities

  1. Burp cloth. I usually just bring a muslin blanket with me because they're pretty big and can clean up a LOT of spit up.

  2. Soft blanket. To cover baby up in case it's chilly so you don't have to resort to using that spit-up covered burp cloth.

  3. One or two extra outfits. Blow-outs happen, so it's best to be prepared.

  4. Diapers and wipes. I love this diaper clutch! It's nice to have something that you can grab and run to the bathroom to change baby without having to take your whole diaper bag.

  5. Bottles/formula

  6. Pacifiers

Toddler diaper bag necessities

  1. One extra outfit

  2. Pullups/wipes until potty-trained

...that's it. I read something once that said "French women don't keep goldfish in their Louis Vuitton" and I try to live by that. If my toddler needs a snack, we'll stop and get something and we'll ask for a straw with our drinks thank you very much. Also, kids are generally entertained by things that aren't actually toys so I don't bother lugging toys around with me.
